Human Artificial Insemination

There are many misconceptions about fertility treatments and in particular human artificial insemination.

If you have not gone through the process of trying to conceive a child with medical intervention, then you may not be as well informed about the process as you might think. On the other hand, if you have spent any time at all in the office of a reproductive endocrinologist, you may know more than you would like about how some might go about trying to get pregnant through human artificial insemination.

The first method of artificial insemination is more commonly used when infertility is not the reason for choosing human artificial insemination. When artificial insemination by donor is the preferred choice it may just mean that a woman has chosen to have donor sperm injected into the cervix to try to become pregnant. This kind of human artificial insemination is the closest one can get to trying to get pregnant naturally. If you have seen shows or movies that present situations where artificial insemination is the topic, then this is likely the kind that they are referring to. While there are many people who use this type of insemination to get pregnant it is not the only choice if natural insemination is not an option.

The second kind of human artificial insemination, called intrauterine insemination, or IUI, may cost a bit more, but is often chosen because it offers a greater chance for pregnancy. While intrauterine insemination may be very similar to the previously discussed form of artificial insemination, one of the big differences is that the sperm are inserted directly into the uterus instead of into the cervix. Another difference between this type of insemination and cervical insemination is that the sperm are washed prior to intrauterine insemination or IUI.

One of the main reasons why women or couples choose IUI over ICI is that it is more effective, especially if there are infertility issues that may be preventing pregnancy from happening as a result of sexual intercourse. One thing that you may want to look into when trying to decide between the two is the cost of artificial insemination and which one is more affordable. If fertility issues are not present and you are looking to become pregnant by a sperm donor, then the best and cheapest option is ICI.

On the other hand if you and your partner have been trying to get pregnant for a while, and it is discovered that he does not have motile sperm, then the human artificial insemination option that would best fit your needs is IUI. It is important to remember though, that before you have this procedure done, you should be sure that there are no other fertility issues to worry about that may make your insemination unsuccessful. One such condition that may affect whether or not you get pregnant from IUI is whether or not the woman is ovulating.

If only the man has been checked for fertility issues, then it is only appropriate that the woman also have some tests done to be sure she is ovulating before human artificial insemination is even something that they couple is considering. Another factor that could play a part in the success of a fertility treatment is the doctor performing the procedure and the facility or clinic where the human artificial insemination is taking place.  Of the many things you should look at when choosing a fertility clinic for your procedure, the pregnancy rate for women who have had artificial insemination at the clinic that you are considering using is one of the most important statistics to research.

No matter if you are looking into human artificial insemination because you want to learn more about the different ways that people use to get pregnant or if you yourself are interested in fertility treatments to conceive a child, it is important that you get all of the facts before you make a judgment about human artificial insemination. Of course it would be great if fertility treatments were not needed, but the fact is that many people would not have children without this great technology. Even if you do not need to have fertility treatments to have a child, you should respect the fact that others are not so lucky.

So many parents would not even have a chance to have children if it were not for human artificial insemination and the technology that goes along with the many different kinds of fertility treatments. Even though artificial insemination is a relative simple procedure, those who are considering it, should really be sure it is the right choice for them. There is no such thing as too much information when it comes to this topic, so make sure you know all you can before deciding if human artificial insemination is the right choice for growing your family.
